CAF Easter Fair
Saturday 28th March

CAF held its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday 28th
March. The event was tremendously well
attended by children, parents, friends, relations
and many new faces all joining in the fun.
The weather was good for the most part, with
a only one brief shower driving the 250 attendees
into the hall for teas, coffees and hot cross buns.
Over 90 children successfully gathered all the clues
left by the Easter Bunny on the school’s Nature
Trail. They were each rewarded with an Easter Egg
for their efforts and ingenuity in solving the
riddle. The Fancy Dress competition was very well
supported with numerous entries in each of the three
age groups.
The judge had a difficult time choosing
between them, as all the entrants looked the part.
Among the other diversions on offer were egg & spoon
races, craft activities and a variety of games.
A big thank you to all who helped and
supported the event and made it such a success.
Don't forget to tell your friends about the next CAF
event, the summer fair on 27th June.
Technology Week
23rd to
27th March
Day 5 - Friday
School Radio Station, Helium
Video balloon and original Model T Ford

Members of the
Hastings Electronics and Radio Club arrived
early and the first part of the morning was spent
rigging a 129ft aerial from the roof of the school
to the tree tops at the far side of the garden. So
far the children have been speaking to a local
Musician in Hastings, but are hoping to speak to
Radio enthusiasts further afield this afternoon. A
video camera has also been set up in the school
grounds which is broadcasting on a line of sight
link directly into the classrooms. An original 1922
Model T Ford arrived in the early afternoon and many
of the children enjoyed sitting in it particularly
sounding the horn! The radio operators continued in
class 6 sending morse code around the world. Late in
the afternoon contact was made with fellow radio
amateurs in Russia & United States.
Day 4 - Thursday
Model completion & Hastings Model Aircraft Club

The morning was spent put the finishing touches to
the various models and marble runs ready for final
testing. After break the children gathered in the
Wallis Hall to see an exhibition of model flying
aircraft by
Hastings Model Flying Club. The exhibition
featured a Fokker Tri-plane as flown by the Red
Baron, a Douglas C47 Sky Train (the military version
of the DC3) and a massive Lancaster Bomber

The whole school spent the morning at The

given an information talk on the technology behind
the Blue Reef covering aspects as filtration and
heating the water to a constant temperature. The
younger children were thrilled watching the rays in
sandy seabed display, learnt about sharks and
tropical coral reefs and everyone enjoyed the
feeding frenzy as over 1,000 tropical fish were feed
before their eyes!
This afternoon many of the
children will be completing and testing their marble
runs and powered boats in the pool and launching
their air rockets in the garden!

success in the aquathon organised by St Marys Tri
Club. The race involved swimming either 3 or 5

500m or 1km. All 3 children performed extremely
well, James & Jack winning their event and Connie
achieving second place.
Science & Tecnology Week

Day 1-Monday

This morning the children started their own projects
for the week which include making a marble run and a
powered model boat. Local model rail enthusiasts
filled the Wallis Hall with scale hand built railway
models reflecting yesterdays technology and in the
main building pupils were able to study the cutting
edge technology of a modern ocean going yacht. The
younger children particularly enjoyed the models and
later on in the week Madame Alf will be teaching
them some basic French terms relating to the week as
part of their French Studies.

Mrs Casebourne achieves fast Hastings Half
Marathon result

The Pictures show Mrs Casebourne, her husband and
sister completing the Hastings Half Marathon in an
extremely fast time of 1 hour 30 minutes on Sunday
morning, despite the very warm conditions for the
race. It was a glorious morning on St Leonards
seafront, where the race starts and finishes. The
gruelling, hilly course was tackled by more
than four thousand runners this year, and Mrs
Casebourne was among the top 15 women runners along
with her sister Victoria. Mrs Casebourne, whose
husband also ran a fast race, demonstrated her usual
modesty at completing the course, and shows what a
great role model she is as both PE teacher and form
teacher. S & D Cheeseman
Red Nose Day

A great fun day for all of the children; in the
nursery there was a crazy hair day, the children in
the main school did not have to attend in uniform
and all came dressed in various shades of red.
Collections have taken place throughout the school
with the main event being the creation of the words
"Charters Ancaster" in 1p & 2p pieces. The original
intention was to write the school name in 10 inch
high letters but the children and staff collected so
many that they were able to complete the letters
many of which were 4 or 5 coins deep, add a thick
border and spell out RED NOSE DAY. Well done
to everyone.

Visit to Preston Manor
Monday 23rd Feb 09

Our Visit to Preston Manor by Eleanor
Form 5 went to Preston Manor on
Monday 23rd February.
We had to bring a Victorian picnic.
I brought cucumber sandwiches, shortbread,
Victoria Sponge, a chunk of cheese, an apple and
water.
We all had to bring them in a straw basket, we
weren’t
allowed any plastic except a plastic bottle of
water.
We were all dressed up as
Victorian servants, (we were pretending to be trying
to get a job as a Victorian servant).
It took us about an hour to get there because
it was in Brighton but we didn’t find it long.
When we got there a lady
dressed up as a maid came out and greeted us.
She took us to the lunch room and we all had
to be silent.
Mr Collins our head teacher got a bit told
off because he was standing up looking out of the
window when he was not meant to!
When we had all finished our lunch we were
led to the Victorian house where we were showed all
the rooms and did a lot of cleaning and polishing.
My favourite room was Mrs Stanford’s room
because it had a lovely bed and really lacy wall
paper. I
really liked it.
The thing that amazed me was the lock on her
door so if someone wanted to come she would just
have to pull a lever and the lock would open.
It was great!
In the house there were two stair
cases, one for the servants and one for Mrs Stanford
and Mr Stanford.
If the servants were cleaning Mr and Mrs
Stanford’s stair case and they came up the servants
had to face the wall so Mr and Mrs Stanford did not
have to see them.
The servants stair case was wooden and steep.
