Charters Ancaster has beautiful grounds, used by both the school and nursery to their best effect.
We have a field for sports and games, a shaded trim train/nature trail area, an astroturf pitch which can be lit for after-school activities, and our own small wood that gives lots of room for exploration and Forest School.
Each of the Nursery classes, and the Reception class, has its own enclosed outside learning areas that leads directly from the classroom, so that children can choose where they want to learn.
Outdoor Learning is built into the curriculum as often as possible. In English, children photograph the changing seasons and write poems for their own photobooks; in Science, they investigate habitats, mini-beasts, seed dispersal, plant growing and many other aspects of the natural world; Reception class grow fruits and vegetables from seed and then taste them, or lie on the ground to measure how wide a pterodactyl’s wings were!
There is plenty of space at playtimes and lunchtimes for children to choose what they want to do and where they want to do it, whether it’s running around playing football, or sitting quietly chatting with a friend.
