Congratulations also to Thomas Gater for winning the Ernest Hill Memorial cup for Speech-Humorous Verse and a 1st with Honours for speech-original verse which he will be performing at the Hastings Festival Winners concert on Saturday.

Honours, 90 marks and was presented with the
Josephine Austin Cup for his verse “The Robin”.

include the poems for publication in a book that she
is compiling for charity. Thomas commented “We all
enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to
perform the poems we had written”.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race
Thel main school pancake races took place on Shrove
Tuesday. The races took place on the all weather
sports pitch with all
of the main school participating. The children
brought their own pans and each class took it in
turn to hold their own individual race. Mr Collins
kept a watchful eye on the event with his pre race
instructions including “Pancakes must be tossed at
least 62cms in the air and at least once every 2.6
metres.” He later commented “I’m not sure the
younger ones quite understood the rules but I am
sure the local wildlife will enjoy eating up the
broken pancakes!”

Michelham Priory
Our Trip to Michelham Priory by Eleanor On Tuesday 15th February our whole school went to Michelham Priory for a day trip. My class, Yr 7, have been studying the Medieval period in our history lessons, that was what we based our day trip on. The Days Activities The first thing Year 7 did was we went into a very old medieval building. We went up some stairs and ended up in an old room where we were shown some very old artifacts of Medieval life. They showed us a very old sole of a shoe which would have been made out of animal skin, it was very thin and long and smelt a little strange. Next they passed round a spear head. It was very long and looked very pointed at the end. Then they passed round a medieval ring, I was amazed at how well it had kept. They also passed round some very old glass which was green and looked very murky. They told us that we weren’t allowed to touch any of the artifacts as the moisture from our hands could affect them. Chinese New Year
Water Polo Congratulations to the waterpolo team on a successful tournament. Children from years 4,5 and 6 were ablet o take part and Mr Masters was able to field his strongest swimmers. The other teams in the tournament were BA, St Peters and St Pauls School. Each school played each other twice, with our team beating St Peters and StPauls twice and BA once. BA also won three games which left a tie for first place. Final placings were decided on goals scored which just gave the final decision to the hosts.

Greg Barker MP visits Charters Ancaster
Greg Barker MP visited the school and nursery today. He was shown around by Mrs Black and was able to see many elements of the school in action. The two yearolds in the nursery welcomed him and then sang a song, whilst year seven were busy learning about cell structure and viewing them with the new electronic microscopes. Mr Barker was impressed by what he saw and commented on the family atmosphere at the school.
