Pupils of our great school have recently been celebrating
their love of music in almost everyway possible!
First of all, many children in the main school have been
successfully involved in the Hastings Music Festival . The
choir and the Choral Speaking groups achieved commendations
while brave youngsters stood alone on the huge White Rock
Theatre stage reciting poems that had written themselves. We
were the only school to take part in this section.
Another highlight was our brass ensemble (trumpets and
trombone) who performed splendidly to gain the first place
cup. Other pupils sang and played instruments making us all
very proud.
Meanwhile, at school, we have enjoyed a “Music Week”, four
days from 25th to 28th March leading
up to the end of term. We welcomed a wide variety of guests
to our school as well as making our own music. This involved
jazz workshops, guitar groups, a concert for parents, a
visiting folk group and folk dancing (including a clog dance
and a pupils’ sword dance!). We also had a great
demonstration of bagpipe playing by a gentleman in full
highland dress. On another occasion, pupils were able to try
out the accordion which proved to be more difficult than it
looks!

On the final afternoon, all pupils and their parents were
invited to listen to our own performance of a short musical
“Resurrection Rock” followed by a performance by our own
jazz ensemble. The term ended with a lively performance by a
local 7 piece traditional jazz band “Creole Jazz”. |
