Coast Gauard visit to the nursery
Friday 25th June 2010

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency visited the nursery children last Friday. The nursery were learning about lifeboats and coastguards and arranged for Holly Shoesmith from the MCA to come and talk to the children. After the talk the children were allowed to get in the coastguards emergency vehicle and were amazed at all the equipment it carried, with Isabella commenting “ its just like Dr Who’s Tardis”.  The highlight for the children was seeing the emergency lights flashing and hearing the siren although Tagen said “ it was really noisy when the siren went off!”. The children learnt that 999 was an emergency number and rasied over £30 by dressing up as pirates and seamen for the day.

Art Week
22-26th March 2010

Children’s Comments on Art Week March 2010

Our whole school had an Art Week from 22nd March till the 26th.  Everyone really enjoyed it.  On Monday the school started their paintings of their visions of the future. On Tuesday we had an artist come in called Jannie Manning.  She did silk paintings of butterflies with us.  On Wednesday the whole school went to Brighton Museum.  We looked at the art gallery and the Ancient Egyptians.  We also had a workshop there.  On Thursday we all did lots of fun art activities.  On the final day, Friday, we had Mrs Carpenter (a local artist) come in form next door.  She gave us some tips on how to make our art better.  She also showed us pictures of all her work.  All the subjects covered art e.g. symmetry in maths, making crosses in RE.

Here are some comments from the children:-

Ryan: “The silk painting was really fun”

Grace: “The silk painting is now my favourite painting”.

Kristian: “I found the museum interesting and I liked doing mummification”.

Lucy: “I liked the museum fun, I especially liked the gory bits”.

James T:  “I liked doing all the art in our classroom”.

Connie: “I liked Mrs Carpenter showing us all her art work”.

William: “I liked doing the Hippocruff with Mrs Moore”.

Max: “I liked finding out all about the Egyptians”.

Connor:  “It was brilliant!  I had loads of fun!  I especially liked seeing all the masks at the museum”.

Lewis:  “We got to do a lot of stuff and it was fun”.

Neil: “I liked the artifacts at the museum and I liked watching the technique of silk painting”.

Scarlett:  “I liked drawing the “Vision of the Future”.
